Naggar Manali

Welcome to Naggar!

Are you one of those whose mind rings to only Shimla and Manali when you hear of the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh? Well here's a lesser known picturesque town of Naggar. Naggar, an ancient town in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, located on the left bank of river Beas is the perfect escape plan in summers for those who all are fed up of the city crowd, pollution, traffic and noise!

Merely an hour from the busy town of Manali, Naggar gives a calm and almost a divine like welcome to anybody who ventures into its lofty highlands. A super approachable place, with no lag of public transport, courtesy its proximity to Manali.

One can simply get on a bus from Delhi to Manali and ask the driver to drop you at Naggar. From there one can take an auto, cab or a bus to reach Naggar Castle.

Either one can choose to stay at Naggar Castle (a laid-back hotel set in a 15th-century palace featuring valley views, a restaurant and an art gallery) or one can stay at any of the other hotels nearby (at a much less price!!), which are at a walking distance from the castle.

Fascinating places to visit here:
The picturesque Naggar Castle (and hotel), set in the medieval era is a heritage site built by Raja Sidh Singh (in around 1460 A.D.) with stones from an abandoned site, which were manually transported to the spot by creating a human chain of labourers over the Beas river, connecting it's left and right banks!

Apart from its jaw dropping history, it is a perfect location for taking some really good pictures for your social media.

Naggar Castle Road

Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery is an art gallery in a building in Naggar that was once inhabited by the Russian painter, Nicholas Roerich.

Just a simple walk from the castle to the art gallery lets you witness breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys.

And, if you crave for some adventure there are many paragliding, river rafting, hiking, enticing river crossing, angling spots nearby.

Also, one can easily reach Manali from Naggar by public buses, cabs or by their own private vehicle.

Things to keep in mind:
✓One must carry a good torch as it gets complete dark here during the night time.
local buses are much safer than the cabs here, as the restless drivers do rash driving.
✓one must drive very carefully as the roads are narrow and there are several turns.
✓ rainfall is much less in winters than in summers. So you must carry an umbrella at all times.

Basic information:
Climate: mild
Average temperature: 16.6°
Nearest Airport: Bhuntar Airport
Nearest Bus depot: Manali Bus Depot
Transportation: Buses and cabs are easily available. Buses are much safer and cheaper than cabs.
